The Fred G. Zahn Scholarship was established to provide scholarships to students in the state of Washington who are graduating high school and are continuing their education by attending a Washington State accredited college, university, or post-graduate institution. Scholarship awards for the current year will be $1,500 per student award winner.
Eligibility
Scholarship Criteria:
- Graduates from schools located in the State of Washington, for either sex, without discrimination as to race, color or creed, who by their effort, scholarship achievement and character has evidenced their ability to benefit themselves and others by continuing their educational processes.
- The scholarship committee shall review the scholarship record and other activities of each recipient of a scholarship annually and shall have the authority to make another award or other awards to students who have previously been recipients of an award or awards while such students are continuing their college, university, or post-graduate studies.
- Scholarship awards may be made to students attending any accredited college or university situate in the State of Washington.

Candidate Criteria:
- Graduated or be graduating from a high school located within Washington State.
- Be attending any accredited college or university in the state of Washington.
- Have resided in Washington for at least six months.
Candidates are ranked by:
- Scholarship: The candidate’s effort in academia as evidenced by grade point average (GPA) and class workload.
- Character: Evidenced their ability to benefit themselves and others by continuing their education.
- Financial need: Consideration of the need for assistance for continuing education is one of the major considerations for awards.
Previous award winners will need to reapply each year to qualify for consideration.

Requirements
Your application for a Zahn Scholarship needs to include all the following elements:
- A completed Application Form
- A copy of high school or college transcript
- Two letters of recommendation
- The most recent approved FAFSA, WAFSFA, a copy of the financial need award letter, or some other documentation demonstrating financial need
- A personal essay that explains why you deserve this scholarship
- Application and supporting documents must be saved as PDFs in the following naming convention:
LastName_FirstName_ZahnScholarship_Year.pdf - Email all documents (in one email) to zahnscholarship@nwtrustee.com
Award notification
The Trustee will notify scholarship awards by June 30, 2025. Payments will be made directly to the schools. If awarded, students must send payment instructions for their school to the Trustee by July 15, 2025.
